“Service on phone when taking out cover in Oct was very good - fast, efficient.
BUT there was a serious cock-up by Bennetts. Previous July my car was hit by a 3rd party. Uncontestable blame, and 3rd party's insurer paid in full for repair to my Car. So I didn't see this as a 'claim', I hadn't claimed anything off my own car insurer. But just before Christmas (so, why did it take this long, eh?) I got a snotty letter from Bennnetts demanding some extra premium because of an 'undeclared claim' from July. But more importantly it also said I was to blame for the car collision! I said "Who told you this?" and Bennettts said (words to the effect) "It's on the CUE database". They said that my car insurer must have put it there. Meantime they kept sending demands for the extrar premium, and threatening to nullify my Fazer insurance (over Christmas). I said will please stop sending these letters while the matter is in dispute. They said "No, the computer sends them automatically if there's a payment default". I couldn't risk my Fazer insurance being invalidated over the Chrismas holiday so I paid the (small) extra premium under protest. But they did say they would refund me if I could prove my innocence! Thanks for the Christmas present, Bennetts!
After Christmas I undertook to get to the bottom of the matter. Ordinarily it would cost £10 for a punter to access this database, but CUE were sympathetic to my cause and told me for free that the CUE database did NOT show me as being liable for the July car collision. So Bennettts had been lying on two counts 1) The entry itself and 2) Their insistence that my own car insurer must have put the duff gen there.
I have since received an apology from Bennetts (blaming a minion) and a refund for the extra premium. Bennetts were about the cheapest, and I approve of their sponsorship of competitive Motorcycle sport, and anyone can make a mistake. But their inept and aggressive mishandling of this simple issue means that I will NOT renew with them next year, even if they prove to be the cheapest. My principles are larger than my wallet, so I'll vote with my feet..
