“Doing an online quote with Hastings Direct you're offered one box to enter the value of any "accessories", I entered the total value for the aftermarket parts on my motorcycle fully expecting to declare all changes however when my policy came through there was no mention of any aftermarket parts fitted or covered under the policy. Once I phoned to enquire they stated that accessories means panniers, heated grips etc and not exhausts or seat cowls and as a result my premium would go up. I paid it as it was still cheaper than the next company all mods declared.
Then I got no documents and checked online in my account section, no mention of mods. I enquired again where I was assured they'd added my mods to the policy, I asked for proof in case I needed to make a claim and eventually I was set an email listing what was declared over the phone only to have the last sentence state they in the case of an accident they would only pay out RRP of the bike not the cost of my declared mods, by this point i was past the 14 days cooling off period and stuck with them for the next 11 months. Makes me wonder why I bothered declaring, stick with the likes of MCE and Bennetts if you've got extras fitted to your machines as they will cover the cost of mods in a crash and also they know what a brake and clutch lever replacement it... yes the Hastings Direct operative had no idea what I was talking about when I said I wanted to change the levers..”
