Sound Quality
Ease Of Installation
I spent quite a while looking for a small streaming amp with the inputs I wanted. The Adastra S260 is a compact unit (14x10x4cm - the power supply is almost as big) and appears well-made (liked the SMA aerial connections) No instructions, so it's the internet or nothing because this unit is not intuitive to set up. I had to make several attempts. It appeared to be speaking Chinese until I realised it was actually English but with a really weird accent. It tells you which input you have selected which is frankly unnecessary because it is displayed in a glowing red, very old fashioned display. The sound quality is actually pretty good but if you need volume buy a more powerful version because this quickly gives up in a very annoying way - it just mutes for tenths to several seconds. I take from this that the "60 Watt" bit means 30W per channel peak, because it sure ain't RMS. However, I just want quiet background music for my terrace area at home and for that it is fine but it wouldn't cope even with a small, busy tapas bar, for example. The supplied remote works from several yards away, and of course you have the option to use Bluetooth and your smartphone to operate it. It will, after some persuasion, connect to your local WiFi network. One quirk - I thought I had switched it off with the remote one night. Early the next morning it sprang into musical life. I tracked this down to a power cut. When the power came back on, so did the S260, so make sure to turn it off at the plug! I generally try to avoid Chinese-manufactured products whenever I can but this does seem a cut above the ordinary. It does a lot for such a small box and at a fairly reasonable price compared to the competition. It ticks all the boxes I wanted - I just hope it lasts the distance. I really ought to ask K&B Audio what their guarantee period is.

Hi Tony, thanks for your recent purchase and review. The S260 is a great entry level amplifier and achieves a lot for the price point. The next level up is the Hamilton WSA50 (£299) and then onto the WiiM streamer + separate amplifier combination. The warranty on these is one year. Thanks again and enjoy your music. Kind regards, Craig.
