I am not swayed by the criticisms of the game. I enjoy it. Granted, I am only on my second chapter, but I am intrigued enough to create notes on each encounter in the chapters. This has been a big help due to my play style and time constraints. I feel that if one judiciously uses the gold and experience earned in each encounter, one can progress characters at a good pace. I especially like the "wandering monster" aspect of the game. I feel it gives a sense of urgency and planning for the uninvited. I am primarily a solo gamer. Bardsung is flexible enough to explore all the characters at once or one at a time in multiple playthroughs. The theme and story are good. This next statement might put my feelings in perspective about it. I enjoyed and played the heck out of Dark Souls Boardgame with the ORIGINAL ruleset. That game will punish the arrogant. So, this game is also a winner in my book. It is a puzzle to solve tactically in combat and strategically in resource management. I have yet to purchase some of the expansions, but I will. No game is perfect, but that can be said about anything. I read and watch a lot of reviews on a game before I buy them. Most of the time, it comes down to your personal preferences. I play games as intended, with no house rules. I like the fact no matter how many modifiers and advantages you can build up, dice rolls are not always going to cooperate. You will never have enough toolkits. Planning how to get that treasure is stifled by the misfortune of a peculiar room or corridor draw. While in a room full of baddies, a wandering monster wants to join. Great. These are examples of why this game is good in my opinion. One cannot predict a successful encounter. Good Job Steamforged!
