“I was considering buying Slate VSX, but then came across a video about SoundID Reference. In the review was also the virtual monitoring add-on and that got me interested. After I already updated to SoundID Reference 4 I tried the virtual monitoring. After only 5 minutes testing it I bought it. This was what I have been searching for. Having the correct headphone correction plus the virtual monitoring is a game changer. Even fairly cheap headphones can sound much better than they're worth and the nonus of being able to listen to a flat response on small, medium and large virtual monitors is a godsend! This has radically changed my mixing, even added a lot of joy to the process. Finally a sound in which I could hear everything and the possibility to check on other systems as well. Absolutely a must for anyone”
“Virtual monitoring gives a chance to hear the mix in a realistic enough environment that I can adjust for the better. Listening on headphones without it sounding like “headphones”, is incredibly helpful.”
“Mixing in headphones can be really fatiguing and it's really easy to overdo things when it comes to the stereo field. Being able to quickly hear what your mix sounds like on speakers (where you naturally will hear bleed from both speakers) has really helped me dial in my panning and width and achieve a much more focused width. It's also great to use the virtual momitoring feature with the other reference modes (eg Hearing what an iphone speaker in a room will sound like)”
“I started using SoundID for when I'm working on headphones after having great results with it in the studio. The individual EQs for different headphone models are great and highly configurable while I found the room/car/speaker emulations are really helpful.
I'd love to see the addition of crossfeed for headphones without the coloration of a virtual room, and maybe more options for said room (size, reverberation amount, different speaker positioning) in the future, but it's already proven to be a useful tool in it's own right.”
