I had never stopped to consider that mixing in headphones meant that if something was panned to the left or right, the opposite ear was hearing nothing...and that is not how things work or sound with a speaker setup. Virtual Monitoring replicates how things will sound on speakers, but in your headphones. it's a simple concept, but it blew my mind at the time. Gone are the days of jumping to small speakers and larger monitors to see if I got things right.
