“While the calibration and correction works amazingly for my Adam A77X speakers, and I love the controls and app/plugin, there are certain glitches that are extremely irritating and are the only thing separating this from a more expensive/pro system. I’m running the latest Mac OS (Catalina) with the latest UAD software and an Apollo interface. Often, when waking the computer from sleep, the program will emit a full-volume white noise blast for about .1 seconds. Obviously, you can imagine how frustrating that is when you have the speakers turned up, even more so when there are other people in the room listening to a deafening white noise blast. Secondly, when waking the computer from sleep, 50% of the time, I won’t hear any sound or it will be digitally distorted as if the sample rate/clocking is off, and I’ll have to quit SoundID, switch the audio interface to Universal Audio, and then reopen SoundID for it to work properly. Additionally, I think the calibration software could be improved, or the directions should be changed. It’s impossible to get it to work with a handheld mic - it always says the mic is moving when I’m standing still. The way I solved this was by putting the mic on a stand (which was a hassle because there is no factory clip), and moving the stand around the room to the different spots. All of these problems were present in the old Reference 4 software, and I was really hoping they would be fixed in the new SoundID, but they all happen just the same. Glitches aside, the correction works super impressively at correcting my speakers for my tiny control room - there are huge dips and spikes in the low end that the correction does a great job at correcting. I’ve heard Trinnov’s units in a studio and when A/B-ing with the dry signal, I found that Trinnov was over-correcting, which I haven’t found with this software. So 10/10 on the correction, 1/10 on the reliability of the application/plug-in.”
Hi Elijah,
We hope you're doing well! Thank you for your review, we really appreciate it!
Even though it's been a while since you posted your review, we wanted to follow up with some updates.
As you mentioned in your review that you have encountered some sleep state issues with SoundID Reference, I wanted to let you know that we have recently released a new SoundID Reference beta version (v5.7.3) which includes a major rework of the macOS driver and aims to resolve various issues such as sleep/idle-time problems and the SoundID Reference virtual device disappearing from the output list. We have been working on these improvements for a while now and we hope that the product experience is greatly improved for our macOS users.
For more details on the beta and steps on how to install it, see our Community post here: https://www.sonarworks.com/community/soundid-reference/posts/12241588603282-new-beta-macos-driver-update-beta-testing-soundid-reference-beta-version-573
If you have the chance to try out the beta, it would be great if you could let us know about your experience in the Community post linked or by submitting a support request. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Zane from Sonarworks Team
