Pros: Total cost. Great price point for the watch with sensors included. No subscription. Regular updates to the watch by the ShotScope team. Really good data provided on the interface. Ability to measure to hazards. Cons: Watch doesn’t operate hardly at all in the rain. Jumps holes, enters and exits the game menu and overall just jumpy. Can’t use the dial or touchscreen in the rain rendering it useless. If you have a chip just short of the green it thinks you’re on the green and goes into pin collect mode. You have to enter the menu and exit out of pin collect to record the club and shot used for the chip. The when you get on the green you have to enter the menu to get back into pin collect mode. This takes too much time away from golfing and your playing partners just stare at you while you mess with the watch. I use manual putting mode to make sure all of my putts are recorded because automatic putting wouldn’t pick all of them up. Pin collect is an easy and good feature that you find on majority of gps watches however, when I go back to look/edit my rounds the pins are NEVER in the correct position that I collected them in so why have the feature if it doesn’t work at all? This also makes the data/statistics collected for putting cloudy as you have to guess exactly where the pin is and then adjust a bunch of your putts. Seems very glitchy. I got into the habit of touching the club sensors to my watch band before every shot because it misses a lot of shots for me if not. You spend a lot of time messing with this watch if you have to enter penalty strokes, hit anything close to but not on the green or walk on or around the green to get to a ball around but not on the green. I literally find myself walking way away from/around the green to try and make pin collect mode not initiate because it’s crazy annoying to enter the menu and scroll to get out of it only to have to do the same thing to get back into it once you’re on the green. This and the performance during rainy conditions are my biggest annoyances with this watch. It started to slow me down, make me think about the watch and not the shot I needed to hit and overall took a lot of the fun out of golfing. I haven’t been able to find a way to disable the touchscreen to help on rainy/misty days. I would ask customer service but a response could take weeks. Especially if they are working on updates for the watch/interface. I previously had the V3 by ShotScope and while it doesn’t look as modern it was a great watch. Easy navigation and does everything this watch does except without the touchscreen and score keeping (which makes you mess with the watch more during your round) and the battery life probably isn’t as good as the X5 which you can squeak by playing two rounds on a day with depending upon pace of play.

Got my X5 at the beginning of the season having previously been a V3 user. I use it as a daily watch and the X5 certainly looks better and is an improvement over the V3. The touchscreen function has improved after the latest software update and is now smoother and more reliable. The new tags have improved the reliability of the shot tracking, although the occasional missed shot occurs and records random shots at the same point on my course, not sure why but easily enough corrected when editing my round. It also tends to move ahead a hole and you have to manually adjust. I'm not a fan of the game menu with functions like recording a provisional shot hidden away, and I rarely use the green view function. While visually an improvement over the V3 with the touch screen nice, If had my time again I would probably have stuck with my V3.

When it came out, it was buggy, but recent firmware updates have fixed most of them. At first, battery life was barely enough for one round, but now it might do two, if they aren't super slow. At first it collected a manual score, but did nothing with it, but now it is used to reconcile the round during edit and review. It still has a few issues. One is that the touch screen does not work in rain or mist. Another is that it doesn't handle shotgun starts, or starting on hole ten very well; it assumes that after hole 18, you are probably done, so you have to manually switch it to hole one. My biggest peeve is that, when putting, the touch screen is on, and very sensitive. Put your arm against your side or back, even for an instant, and it records a 2 putt par, with the pin located wherever you were at the time, and moves to the next hole. The more focused I am on playing well, the more apt I am to put my left hand behind my back when studying putts or repairing ball marks, so for me, this is very frustrating. On the whole, it's a very nice watch at a very good price. You get a tremendous amount of data about how much you are improving, and when you should focus your practice (for me, my current areas to target are drive accuracy, 100-150 yard approaches, and 4-10 foot putts). I started the year comparing to 20 handicap players, and now am comparing to 10 handicap, with a couple of strokes to improve before I move to comparisons to 5 handicap. If you can live with the faults, I definitely recommend it.

For some reason the X5 was released without what was a vital feature for me as my home course has 9 holes with 3 of them having dual greens On the V3 I am able to see yardages to both greens and also the watch recognises which green I am on when adding my putts I first contacted Shot Scope in June about this and was advised this feature would be included in an update but no idea when As such I have reverted to using my V3

There are many features on this watch, I sometimes forget to use them all as I just want to get on with the game. Such as penalty drops and putting counters. All can be edited later once round is downloaded. One of the better features are the green maps and being able to move the pin to an approximation. If you want to play 2 rounds a day, use a charge pack between rounds. Tracking the use of clubs in the course is only good so long as the club tags are working, so replace when necessary. The tee maps are sometimes wrong but you can alter them on your downloaded round. Support is usually good at sorting this too. I do like the statistics features at the end of the round, based on the day to your season. Also how your club playing distances help you think about what you need to play to those distances. I’ve just downloaded the ebooks, let’s see if they help me improve.

Really liked the idea of the X5, took up the upgrade offer after being a V2 and then V3 user... sold my V3 to help fund the purchase of the X5, however, I've regretted that decision ever since. The V3 wasn't as expensive and worked perfectly even in the rain. The X5 is rendered utterly useless once it starts raining - the screen often jumps you a few holes ahead, or will start logging putts for you if you're on manual putt mode like I use, or it can sometimes shut itself off completely. I contacted Shotscope support who are usually extremely helpful, asking for a refund or if I could have it swapped for a V3, but they said they have no more V3's in stock anymore and declined the refund. Only positive, is when it's dry, the watch/yardages work fine.

Touchscreen if hard to work. Battery only works for a max of 20 holes. I would love to use the watch as a everyday watch but with the low battery it is no good. Gives you great data on your golf game! Love the Dashboard online. App is so so…
