“I've made do with a cheap solder sucker for years, but when it finally lost its ability to suck I splurged on this one. I wish I had done so years ago! (Well, as long ago as I could have done, anyway.)
With a youngster in the house refining his soldering skills, this gets a fair bit of use now, and it's perfect for small hands like mine. I really am surprised just how much more efficient it is than my previous one, which would take several goes to clean a pin - it's rare that I have to take more than one go with this one.
On top of this, it is visually appealing, and comes with spare tubing for the tip - not that I've needed to use this yet.”
“After 20+ years of hand (de)solderning, this is the best yet even including much bigger brands. Its small size gives a much sturdier hold which doesn't zigger around when the button is pushed. Suction is at least as strong as any others I've used and the silicone tube can be pushed tighter to the joint to desolder. Spare silicone tube ВЈ2 for 2m from ebay (4mm outer, 2mm inner dirensions). It handles 350 degree soldering without the silicone melting. Fundamentally, I can't fault it!”
“After leaving a review of this product Pimoroni got in touch and offered me a replacement. The new one works perfectly, and I would like to add the amazingly fast and supportive service received from these guys is beyond expectation. I love buying from you guys it's always a pleasure and to know that there is the support behind the products too only goes to reassure me about purchasing more stuff for further projects. If only I could give you 10 stars.”
“This all-metal solder sucker is nothing short of FANTASTIC!
It has a very smooth action which kind of masks the punch it packs. It's much smaller than all the others I've ever used over the years, so handling is taking me some getting used to.
The main USP for this desoldering gun is the easily replacable silicone tube which forms the nozzle: it softly forms a seal around the solder joint and the iron's tip, to draw up the molten solder — just like a thirsty pirate supping the last dregs of rum out of the bottle..!
I think the selling point of this solder-sucker is its general marvellousness ”
“This blows (or should I say, "sucks") away those cheap solder suckers - meaning less time spent with the soldering iron, cremating the PCB. It can even suck up disconnected pins if you are not careful! You've also got a better chance of recovering complex components (ICs, transistors) with this too over cheaper junk with its ability to leave less solder around.
Points to note are:
- Flexible silicon nozzle for getting a closer seal which doesn't burn like those cheap plastic alternatives
- Strong suction force - it's that effective, you may need to empty it after 2-3 extractions
- Feels extremely well engineered - it feels quality and solid, despite it looking quite dainty (I'm sure that's a pirate word)
- Less cumbersome to use with your weaker hand compared to the cheaper alternatives
- Effective - it gives you those few extra milliseconds to take more solder off, leaving a neater surface
In summary, buy it if you don't have the room for a desoldering station, even if you are an amateur at electronics. It's worth every penny for avoiding the grief you get with the cheaper junk.”
“This is the best thing you can get short of a desoldering station. It is made of very high quality materials and definitely feels the amount it is worth. And is very much better than the common plastic ones, I bought one of those not so long back for about a fiver and the amount of force that the barrel has while going back up has ruined the plastic threading on the top joint.
This, being metal and shorter will not break. With the silicon nozzle you can press right against the solder joint instead of having to be a few mm away as in the case of the common ones. Comes with a length of spare tube which a few hours of desoldering in I've not even had to think about as the preinstalled piece is still in very good shape.
Definitely recommended, very useful to have for anyone that solders remotely frequently. High quality, leagues better than common plastic solder suckers. Price is easily justifiable once you use it.”
“Hands down the best solder suckered I have ever used.
I was able to desolder 0.03" power connector pins in one shot. It is built like a tank out of solid materials and I am sure it will last a very long time.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!”
“I once bought a cheap, plastic solder sucker from Amazon and felt pleased with myself. It only worked some of the time, the nozzle end melted away and it ended up being more trouble than it was worth.
This, though, is easily the better. It is so well built that I expect it will last a lifetime and it works like a dream. It is worth paying extra for the quality.”
