“The original item received had been defective / non-functional, however the team at Pimoroni were very good at sorting out a working replacement from stock, quickly in response.
I find the usb hub does conveniently stick out just far enough from a standard raspberry pi case, thus avoiding a cluster of usb connections at the case.
Option to provide extra power to the hub using a spare USB-C (raspberry pi) power supply working with external SSDs.”
“I tried using a cheap WalMart powered USB hub and immediately got an overvoltage warning. Cheap, poorly designed USB hubs will back feed power into your pi and can cause damage. Just go with the official Raspberry Pi USB3 Hub. It can be powered via USB-C 5V 3A for high power periferrals WITHOUT BACKPOWERING and OVERVOLTAGE warnings.”
“The Raspberry Pi USB 3 Hub is ideal if you need to have multiple USB3 devices that consume a lot of power, the USB-C input makes sure that you have enough power to deliver these devices, like in my case, powering up 4 external USB3 external harddrives, where doing the same connecting to the 4 USB3 ports of the RaspberryPi5 would make the drives go down and even make the clicking sounds. I have benchemarked them and they run at the full USB3 speed. Great little device, super happy with it!”
“From a basic test, it seems to work well. I haven't yet tested the full capabilities of this yet, but I'm hoping it will provide good transfer speeds, and the optional power input will be handy to power some accessories that could be a strain otherwise.”
“Useful hub for additional USB-3 ports.
It would have been useful to have had a SD/MicroSd card slot, but at least the hub allows you to plug a card adaptor comfortably.”
