“Enjoying the new Pi5. It's well built with typical Raspberry quality. Loving the new features and extra speed too. My Pi5 did develop a fault on the HDMI 0 connector which Pimoroni sorted for me when I contacted them about it, so top marks for customer service.”
“I've used Raspberry Pi 4 8GB as a desktop (along with USB3 M2 external 512GB SSD) for a while. Raspberry Pi 4 was just at the edge to be properly usable as desktop computer. PyCharm was just usable, Eclipse much more so, browsing was a bit slow but bearable.
Raspberry Pi 5 just pushed it to the other side! KDE with Plasma and all fancy transitions works smoothly, PyCharm is responsive and browsing (Chromium) is just fine.
Also, out of curiosity, I have run my Python ZX Spectrum emulator on Raspberry Pi 5. I have developing it on M1 Max Mac and it can achieve around 58-59 fps there (3.2GHz ARM processor - one thread of one core - as Python can't utilise more). The same code running on Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB) achieves 42-43fps on 2.4GHz! Mere 5-10% faster if you adjust clocks!
Also, a cheap USB to headphones dongle easily fixed line out I use for listening online radio on the RPi.”
