“I am very happy with my Raspberry Pi 5, my notebook is unimportand now.
Since I have received my package I am in love with the performance of my new Pi.
Until today, I just have one isue that make me wondering, in the last 7 weeks in use my attached ssd(my boot device as well) I lost 3 times the content of the /boot/overlays/ directory and no idea why.
I allways shutdown my pi5 with a clean sudo shutdown now and the problem showed up after I repowered my pi 5 next time.
As a solution I copied the content from a sd card and it was no problem to boot from the ssd.
Today I edited the /boot/config.txt(added the lines
max_usb_current=1
program_usb_timeout=1
and hopefully this solved the issue).
But apart from this, I love the raspberry pi 5 soooo much!!!”
“I bought the 8gb pi5 and have to say it’s so much faster than the pi4 , I’m running android on mine and it plays 4¥ streams brilliantly. Also can play ps2 games well when retro gaming. A much needed upgrade from the pi4 and it has pcie connectivity (via a mini connector. Arrived within 3 days , I’m very happy with my purchase.”
“A real step-up in power compared to the previous model.
The Pi5 is a serious contender for use as a desktop replacement.
For me, the most useful feature is the ability to add M2 Memory.
The on/off button is handier that I thought it would be.”
“Fantastic little device, and sent (as always) well packaged from the folks at Pimoroni.
But due to demand/supply snafus — it was the Raspbery Pi 5 launch — I got my device a month later than the date I was told I'd have it by when ordering, hence the 4/5. Now, to be clear: I appreciate that's not strictly Pimoroni's fault, *but* the communication around the delay (lots of us were left waiting) was a lacking.
I only knew there was a delay becasue I hadn't received mine. I went to social media and saw the company replying to some other people asking where theirs were, and they they were pointed to two lines explaining the situation in an FAQ page I… probably wouldn't have gone to look for a delivery update. While an e-mail was eventually sent out, it was done so several weeks post-delay.
I must stress that I know Pi launches are massive, demand is huge, supply (hisotrically) can be patchy, and that Pimoroni team, as awesome as they are, is small. They have to handle everything else going on with the compnay that isn't just pi pre-orders (there's only so much bandwidth, if you will).
What I found disappointing was the fact communication re: the delay was primarily happening on a social network (that I no longer actively use). Worse, the tweets were worded with an almost huffy-like request for customers to 'stop e-mailing about the delay'. Ironically, a proactive email from you to customers affected would've done that more effectively than a tweet into the ether…”
