“It is good improvement over older boards (thumbs up for power button, UART port, PCIe, cooler port, performance...), I miss audio connector, HDMI connectors are too close to each other and power plug (some cable reductions are not usable). It definitely needs active cooler, which is really hot also when normally used.”
“I installed the PI5 8GB on a self-made box in the back of an old TV with a pimorono autofocus camera.
Everything works very well. This way I assembled a powerful pc with a nice webcam.”
“Incredibly powerful in comparison to last gen. I had a lot of issues with WiFi dropping, however the fix for this was to disable WiFi power management. Incredibly portable with a lot of applications. Works great for hosting Jellyfin, Portainer, Pterodactyl and a few minecraft servers.”
“Is faster than an RPi4, it's warmer than an RPi4 and it draws more power than an RPI4.
Will you notice the speed difference? Probably depending on your application.
Will you notice the heat? I've not had any issues but I am using the active cooler. Not sure I'd run one of these beasties without some for of cooling.
Would I but another? Yes when I have an application that needs an RPi5.”
