“Just received my Raspberry Pi Zero boards. Had ordered 2 (one adapter kit). Received it by post (Royal Mail) the very next day. I appreciate the timely delivery. Packaging was good too.
Amazed to see how much computer technology has advanced - the board is so slim and small. Have not had the time to test it out yet. As an image processing and DSP engineer I plan to use this as an embedded OpenCV platform. I am also interested to see what future Raspberry Pi Zeros (and competing products) might offer. Perhaps multi-core, wireless connectivity, or built-in audio/image processing. The low price and small size are its biggest selling point.”
“Whilst i have all the various pi models i find this one good for the everyday stuff and ideal to take away with me. Whilst the pi2 is excellent for more cpu/gpu stuff this is good for coding with and general work and for the price ideal for projects that if they go wrong means you can quickly and easily replace it.”
“I've received my Pi Zero Project Kit w/ Scroll pHAT and I can't stop playing with it. The kit comes with a useful set of adaptors - few minutes of soldering and then hour of fun!”
“Been fiddling around with the Zero and Scroll pHAT and it's a lot of fun. :)
For setup I recommend the official WiFi dongle (shame that one doesn't have any activity leds though!) and the adaptors, though using a larger Pi (I used the original model B) for configuring internet access and SSH is recommended, you can then pop the micro sd in the Zero and it'll work like a charm. I hope you guys come out with a WiFi and a USB pHAT for this device, by the way!
The device itself is amazingly small, even smaller than I anticipated. If it were just a bit tinier it would fit in a Gameboy cartridge (imagine designing a portable game device around that!). Operation is smooth, VNC works great, just like the other models. And for just ВЈ4 this is a steal. I'll definitely order more of these once they get back in stock.
Pimoroni has been very helpful and patient(!) with me on their Twitter and mail support when I had questions before buying the Zero and about my order. Will definitely order from them again!”
“While on the connectivity side it is a lot more basic, it means it is less wasteful of both power and space. If you need Ethernet for instance, you can get an ENC28J60 Breakout board and connect it via SPI for example.
This means that you are a lot more in control of the hardware, as it starts off very minimally. The specs are not bad, especially for an embedded project, would be enough for some desktop-like use but its not geared directly for that. It is tiny, I can fit 5 of them sideways along the length of my hand!
For ВЈ4, you cannot go wrong. Do note that the kits that it comes in are more than useful, without having a set of the adapters, you will struggle to even begin using it.
No complaints (except stocking!!!!, I'd happily buy 16/32 of them to build a cluster!!)”
