“The Raspberry Pi4 adapter is solidly built and reliable. It is also versatile and can be used for many things.
One limiting factor is that it has a USB C plug, whilst many devices use micro USB power sockets. However, this isn’t really a problem as a Female USB C to Male micro USB adapter can be used to convert the PSU from USB C to micro USB.
The USB C to micro USB adapter is not commonly available (Pimoroni don’t sell them), however they can be found on Amazon (quality may vary).
I use the Pi4 PSUs to power the Plasma Stick 2040 W for the 5m Flexible Addressable RGB LED Wire LED strips in my Skullys and elsewhere. (the Plasma Stick has a micro USB input, so an adapter is needed)
I could use a Pi3 PSU which has a micro USB connection, but I use` the Pi4 supplies for two reasons:
- they have a higher current rating
- flexibility
Standard USB C PSUs of this rating are very rare (or expensive) and may not be reliable. At 3A / 15w the Pi4 PSU is a good standby PSU to have in stock for use in a variety of projects that use 5v. And, of course, they also fit the Pi4s that you have laying around waiting to make into projects :-)
Perhaps Pimoroni could stock the Female USB C to male micro USB adapter in the future”
“It's nice and compact, correct 5.1V 3A output for the Pi, and being an official RPi product sold from a reputable reseller means I don't have to worry too much about setting fire to my house!”
