“Having only ever used phone chargers to power my pi projects I finally bought the proper item. I'm glad that I did, no more cpu throttling and stable as a rock. Different beast with proper cables and solid supply voltage even with peripherals like tv tuners and wifi dongles plugged in.

“Had to get one of these after building a Monome ‘norns’ shield for a Raspberry Pi 3B I realised that adaptors I had for previous RPi builds were’t putting out quite enough juice and a quick check on the Pimoroni site confirmed my suspicions.
