“It works, but it doesn't fit in the case. I've tried two different cases that claim to fit this board and it doesn't fit. looking carefully the board is slightly too big and quite unnecesarily so. So, I'm in the process of 3D printing a unique case, just for this. Poor.”

Sorry to hear you're unhappy with the size - the Base is longer than the Pi so that it can accommodate 2280 form factor drives. We're currently working on a case that should work nicely with NVMe Base and NVMe Base Duo and hopefully we should have something to share on this front soon.
