“Didn't work to begin with. Huge frustration. Careful inspection with the magnifier on my phone and finally found the user error. The ribbon connector on the pi 5 board did not have the locking push piece fully seated. After that worked like a dream. Trying to install ubuntu server on it was fine until I tried to re-partition the drive. I messed that up and then because I'd set the boot order to be NVME first, it just locked up and I couldn't do anything. Disconnected the pesky ribbon connector, booted from sd card, changed the boot order back to sd card first. connected the ribbon connector, re imaged the NVME, repartitioned the NVME, ripped out the SD card and bingo. My advice, keep the boot order as SD card first and then rip the sd card out and keep for emergencies. Overall, I love running a fast enough pi5 with a fast enough NVME and not paying huge sums in running costs. The base from pimoroni works and I'll be getting another in the future.”
“Great product.
The instructions on the web page along with the YouTube instructions are all that are needed.
The speed of the Pi5 is amazing with this base adaptor. Airflow to the top of the Pi is unrestricted as well as access to gpio pins.”
“Works very well with the included SSD. Loses a star because there seem to be some limitations in terms of compatible SSDs, hopefully that'll get worked out. The kit comes with all the nuts and bolts you might need, even some spares, but that's just for the reference caseless build. It probably won't work well if you're using a case. Because of how I was mounting mine in a mini rack, I had to go off piste with the build, and would've appreciated hollow standoffs and very slightly longer bolts. You really do have to attach the ribbon cable first, and that leaves things a bit fragile if the mounting is complicated. I had one not working cable, but support have sent me a free replacement, top customer service!”
“With careful handling of the flat cable, I was able to assemble the hardware very easily.
The problem is the case. The standard case is not available, so you will have to use the bare case or make your own. (That's fun, though.)
Using NVMe eliminated the bottleneck and made it very comfortable.
It's great, to say the least!”
