“Everything I needed to get started with the Pi 5. The case is excellent for dissipating heat and the passive cooler does the job for most applications so the fan rarely needs to spin up. The Pi 5 works great as a retro game emulator and game streaming client and can even output 4k.”
“The board, psu and case all work just fine. Performance is much better than previous Pi’s.
One thing that would be helpful is: a small instruction showing to assemble the heat sink and cooling fan. It was not obvious whether these were alternatives, or to be used together, as the clearance is quite tight.”
“Finally received my pre-ordered PI 5 with 8GB RAM. The essentials kit has everything required to set up the PI in no time. I am very impressed with the performance in comparison with earlier models. In terms of general use as a desktop PC, the PI is suitable for everyday use.
I have run with both the PI OS and the Ubuntu image - both are available using the PI Imager software.
General performance is similar on both platforms. However, I did find that many packages that work perfectly well under Ubuntu will not work with PI OS (Aisleriot solitaire, Qlandkarte/ Qmapshack, Littlenavmap - and many others). I have run the PI 5 hard using only the standard PI case and cooling fan. I have not had any temperature limitations or clamping.
