“This is an excellent device for creating a digital photo frame.
The four physical buttons are particularly useful for navigating pages or switching between portrait and landscape modes.
By setting up the Raspberry Pi OS as a read-only file system, it works perfectly even when powered by batteries.
You can write a script beforehand to randomly select the photos to display. Then, simply turn on the power when you want to switch the display, and once the screen refreshes, turn the power off. This allows for a simple and efficient use case without needing to run "shutdown -h now" every time.”
“Great introduction to eink. Bright and clear picture. Easy to set up and provided libs are very hackable. The only bad things are: the refresh is very slow (45sec block is hardcoded into the libs, but you can adjust this) and something a bit avoidable: the ICs are placed too close to the edge of the PCB making it unnecessarily annoying to mount. I would certainly buy a monochrome version with a faster refresh.”
