“As others have mentioned, it would be good to have the header already soldered in a starter kit (luckily I have a colleague who is a dab hand with a soldering iron, even he said it was a bit fiddly). Apart from that, this is excellent - everything you need apart from keyboard, mouse, HDMI cable and monitor or TV set. I’ve had a lot of fun with it, and it’s an attractive package that would make a great Christmas present.”
“I think adding the BlinkT LED kit to the starter package is a brilliant idea as it changes this from being just another computer with software to being the basis of an actual 'maker' kit that interacts with the world. For that alone I would give it 5 stars.
Unfortunately, as a 'complete' starter kit, I expected to be able to put it together, plug it in, and go, but the absence of the GPIO header on the supplied board means that the BlinkT kit can not be plugged in and I am pretty sure that anybody who possesses the advanced soldering skills required to safely attach the GPIO header probably does not need the beginners starter kit. I will be using the BlinkT on regular pi's that I already have, but can I suggest in future that either this kit be supplied with a board that has a header, or that you stop calling it a 'starter' kit.”
“Great starter kit and included everything you need to get moving on some simple projects. Only problem I had was the "pre-installed" OS was not pre-installed... but took less than 2 minutes to download NOOBS and copy the required files onto the memory card then another 5 minutes to install so not a problem really and it is good to learn how to do that anyway. Just make sure you have a good solder kit as that bit can be fiddly if you are not good with it or just buy the pre-soldered version. Also delivery was very quick so that was great!”
