“Excellent delivery process that saw the box in my hands less than 24 hours after I ordered it. The kit itself is great; getting the wires into the plasma stick was a little fiddly, due to my sausage fingers more than anything, but once done it was all incredibly smooth to get it working.
Getting the LED strip to fill the star bottle is difficult so maybe a little tool or online guidance would be a welcome addition, but that is such a minor issue I won’t even drop a star.”
“This is wonderful product, it's fun, looks good and it's accessible to all level of tinkerers. You can just follow the basic instructions and get it working in minutes or you can go get some code on GitHub and set up a server at home to control it from a web interface. And that's without changing any of the pre-programmed patterns!”
“I have 2 of these. 1 skully and 1 starry (with 2 more on the way). The problem with the skully was the supplied cork looked like a dried out body part which a serial killer kept as a trophy. It was so mummified it couldn't be used, but I had glow in the dark hot glue which worked a treat. The cork supplied was alot better plus there was a spare included.”
“Simple to put together, however, I had issues with the fine wire for the LED string keep snapping off where it meets the PCB screw terminals! Solved by the use of a 3-Pin Header, with the first and last pins spread out to fit the screw terminals and soldering the wires to the shorter pins! I also found a suitable case to hold the PCB, on Etsy, & along with a "USB Cable with Switch", which is so handy! Other things to follow too. .. ...”
“This was an amazing fun holiday project.
I was initially a bit disappointed that I needed to connect the light to my computer every time I wanted to change the configuration, as my goal was to put the light under the Christmas tree (I bought the star-shaped light), but my computer is in the basement.
What I really wanted is a way to control which animation code the Plasma Kit runs, and control some of its configuration settings, directly from my phone.
There was no way to do that with the example code provided, so I built it myself.
If anyone is interested, I've posted the results on GitHub here:
https://github.com/brunon/Starlight
This code will have the Plasma Kit ping a configuration file hosted on an external web server (I used a Raspberry Pi 4 I had on my network running Apache2 for this), and automatically change the animation based on the contents of this configuration file. I also included a (very) basic JavaScript page to automatically POST the modified configuration file from a simple browser page, allowing me to control it via my phone.
It's very barebones still but shows the amazing versatility of the Wireless Plasma Kit”
