This device is an excellent way of adding audio output to the Raspberry Pi Zero/W in particular. No soldering is required. It is also very thin (thus the name shim) and allows other card (hats) to be plugged on top of it using the original Pi Zero GPIO pins. It is based on the PCM5100A DAC chip however it does not have any mixer controls (This is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars). If the lack of a mixer facility isn't a problem then this is the solution for you. I tested the DAC shim using MPD (Music player daemon).

Very good audio solution for a Pi Zero - you just slide it on the 40 pin connector, follow the basic config commands and you are done. Very cost effective solution to give new brains to an old Bose powered speaker using the speaker's AUX jack with Volumio - you get network music streaming, Spotify, web radio etc. Audio quality is much better than the audio jack in a Pi4.

Everything as expected. Worked flawless. Installation can be a bit tricky at first with all the different guides on the internet. In the end I used the script from nicokaiser (https://github.com/nicokaiser/rpi-audio-receiver/blob/main/enable-hifiberry.sh) to properly install the device on my pi zero w

Nice product, fits like a glove on the Pi Zero. I already had a Pi Zero/W set up with the Phat Dac and Volumio. Replaced it with this one, then all I had to do was add the 'gpio=25=op,dh' to config.txt and it worked straight away. It is hooked up to an old receiver on the Aux input. Will try with the Mopidy package to compare features but for now, it does the job!
