“Pirate Audio has been so much fun to play with. The combination of line-out, display, and buttons into one card really opens up a lot of possibilities for DIY projects.
I started with the example software (Mopidy + plug-ins to drive the display/buttons) and from that have been building out a multi-room audio system. Using other RPi's and Snapcast, I've added other speakers, a line-in source for a record player (using an ADC HAT from a different manufacturer), and AirPlay.
There's a whole ecosystem of software that can be used with this device. I've already bought more to expand into new rooms!
I would just advise caution when plugging in expensive speaker systems, at least when getting started. Because of the flexibility of software that you may choose to use, there is always the potential of accidentally playing at very loud volumes, etc. Would start with cheap speakers while you're getting the hang of things!”
