“Had great fun building this, and managed it in an evening even though I have very little experience. Had to use the video instructions though as the written ones were not enough for me to complete the build - some close ups in the video of some details would be a helpful addition. Only issue is that my light-up power button does not work but I think I may have broken it trying to push the connectors on too hard.
Overall a excellent product and will be looking at getting some more for a science outreach activity I run. Tip - the artwork is card between to sheets of clear perspex, so could easily be switched out for your own branding.”
“Great service and a great product. Fairly straight forward to build, although fitting the 10" screen was different to the 8" one. However if you look around the notes on site you will find all the info and some very helpful video's.
Works like a dream and I have no previous experience with raspberry pi. Great starting point, but I can see a custom build on the horizon.
Thanks Pmoroni”
“I purchased the Picade with the 10-inch display as a present for my son's birthday. Last night I spent roughly 3 hours building the unit (which was an enjoyable experience). This final product is AWESOME! I'd highly recommend investing the money into this rad retro gaming machine. One quick technical note... The 10-inch display did not work until "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" was added to the /boot/config.txt file, so keep that in mind. All in all the build quality is good, and everything fits together quite nicely. One thing I might mod is the marquee. It would be cool if the marquee was illuminated.”
“Build quality is superb, the instructions are almost perfect and the end result is a fantastic arcade machine that your kids play more than you do, seriously I'm still waiting for my go I can't get them off Frogger.
The customer support has also been epic, my joystick ball had a missing thread and it was replaced instantly next day without any quibbles.
A few items that may help others.
You will need a keyboard to set it up initially.
1) Download the latest version of RetroPie
https://retropie.org.uk/download/
2) Burn to SD using Wine32DiskImager
https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
If you get any errors about Access Denied use the SD Card Formatter program from here to prepare the SD Card first
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/eula_windows/index.html
3) Before you insert the card into the RPI3 make sure you edit the file config.txt on the SD Card so that the hdmi_force_hotplug=1 line is enabled, e.g. remove the # before it.
4) When RetroPie boots use F4 to exit to the terminal and install the picade drivers for the XHAT
curl -sS https://get.pimoroni.com/picadehat | bash
https://learn.pimoroni.com/tutorial/sandyj/getting-started-with-picade-hat
This should get you up and running pretty quick and enable you to map the buttons in the Emulation Station software and then in MAME you can set up the controls for all or per game by pressing TAB.
Amazing bit of kit and great fun!”
“Good product so far. Little advice for the 10 inch model: skip the base 1 acrylic piece because the screen won't fit on thes sides of the picade. If you have a problem with the hdmi read the note in the product page. I am very satisfy :)”
