“This is an ideal, if not an essential, companion to the Raspberry Pi-4. Whilst the new Pi-4 is packed with all the extra power we've been asking for, it runs very hot. Even in open-air, the processor is too hot to touch. The Fan Shim completely tames the Pi and it now runs cool! It's clever design, as a shim, means it doesn't interfere with access to any of the Pi ports or GPIO pins. Brilliant design and performance.”
“That is one seriously quiet fan! I was a bit concerned about having such a small fan because they tend to make the most appalling noise, but this one is very near to silent.
It's an incredibly simple little bit of kit, but initial tests show my CPU temperature down by about 20 degrees.
Nice.”
“This is a nice little fan for the Pi 4. It does feel quite fragile and the fan is very quiet too, which is a bonus. Whilst it does state that this is compatible with the Pibow Coupe 4, for the new Pi 4, I have to disagree ever-so-slightly.
When you install the SHIM on the Pi 4 and push it down, the button is then below layer 4 of the Pibow, meaning you cannot use it - this may be fine if you have the fan set automatically, but it kinda detracts for the button being there. I also missed the part in the description about needing a booster header if wanting to use other HATs / pHATs with my Pi 4 - I assumed that as it is a SHIM, this was not needed as the idea of the SHIM is so that you don't need a booster header. Had I known, I would have ordered one in my bulk order, but instead will probably make do (or buy the booster elsewhere) to avoid paying more in shipping than the header costs.
If the Pibow had a cut-away so that the button could fit in correctly (when the SHIM is pushed down), then this would be better - I'll leave a similar review for the Pibow accordingly.”
