“I bought this because I needed a display for a Lon-running project. I am very impressed with this display. Although small, the screen is clear enough to to be able to use the command lineage the image is bright. Its takeover of the gpio pins limits the scope of what it can be used for, but it is an excellent piece of kit for what it can do.”
“1) Pretty much plug and play to set up.
2) The display is lovely with a decent refresh rate, enough to play video comfortably. No sound.
3) The power cable location is a little bit annoying and I would definitely like to see/buy a bigger version that can completely hang over the edge of the raspberry pi 3 while the power cable is plugged in. So perhaps a 5 or 6 inch version. This would help when it comes to building a custom case to house the entire unit in.
4) I would also like to be able to turn the screen backlight completely off using the touchscreen. This is something you can do with the official raspberry touchscreen and an essential feature.
5) My pi3 ran between 60 and 80 degree temps with this plugged in and a few background scripts (node servers) with chromium running on a fresh installation of raspian stretch.
6) The touchscreen is pretty amazing and works with your fingers quite accurately.
7) If you disable the screensaver and leave the display on overnight the image gets burned in so when you switch it off you can still see the imprint. This recovers within a few minutes but I do wonder how this will affect the screen over time even though TFT screen are supposed to be far more immune to "screen burn in". You can also get around this problem by shifting the colors and doing some animation now and then.
8) Once fitted on top of the Pi you can hot swap it out but it feels so delicate I don't think I would want to be swapping it between Pi's every week. I would be worried about breaking it.
9) I don't think this screen will survive a 24hour and 7 day a week project but i'm sure gonna find out :D
It's probably the best touch screen around in 2018 for the raspberry Pi. And i'm having a ton of fun using it. Get one if the above issues are not a major concern to you! I will be getting another in 6 months if this one survives the test of time unless they bring out a bigger screen.”
