“This is an excellent screen for your projects. I purchased both the red and yellow screens. They are very easy to get up and running and Pimoroni provide some great example python scripts for you to try. I simply love these.”
“I bought the InkyPhat on a bit of a whim, it looked cool and for ВЈ22 I thought to myself 'why not?' My package arrived promptly as ever and I got to setting it up. I've completed a fair few projects, including Pimoroni's own Octocam and Pirate radio. This said, I wouldn't call myself an experienced maker by any stretch. The accompanying instructions were crystal clear and very easy to follow - this is one of the main reasons I shop with Pimoroni so much, they really cater for amateurs.
After soldering the necessary pins onto my Pi Zero W, I attached the hat and got installing. I had a small issue where the example documents didn't download. After updating the Pi, I tried again and it worked without a hitch.
InkyPhat comes with several examples which you can customise, these are quick and easy to install, literally type a line of code and hit enter. The display does take around 30 seconds to update some of the examples. The display is small but very clear, I was pleasantly surprised by it. Something I wasn't expecting is that the device not only works when the PI is off, but you can even unplug it and the displayed image will remain. This is a cool feature for really portable projects.
Overall, I'm really impressed with InkyPhat. It was quick and easy to set up, the instructional material was idiot proof and the product delivers a quality finish (at least to my eye). I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for something new or a little different.”
“The inkyphat is a great low cost introduction to e-paper displays. The online tutorials got me setup very quickly and in no time I was customising the examples to try out ideas. I will probably use it long term as a notifier; you got mail, tax the car, water the plant, that kind of thing. The option of using red, as well as black and white, allows for highlighting important reminders. My one criticism is that the screen updates very slowly (much slower than e-reader), so it's not practical to use as a clock or real time hardware monitoring (cpu, ram, temp) or for scrolling text, but fine for alerts. Whilst you could get a lot of text on the screen, using a few large bold characters has real punch.
As usual my order turned up in no time, in a package that fits through the letter box (take note other retailers who use enormous boxes for tiny orders!).”
