“I love this screen, it is small, lowe power and crystal clear.
The excellent Pimoroni software makes it as simple as plug and play.
The demos really help get you up and running and provide excellent ideas.
My only gripe is the refresh rate when getting the screen to update.
So you would be fine using for infrequently changing info (name badge, daily weather etc), but not for frequent changes.

“This is definitely one of the more obscure displays out there for the Pi, but boy is it fun, especially with that third colour elephant-in-the-room RED. I also love the fact it retains the last image/text drawn to the screen, even without power. The library supplied by the guys at Pimoroni is super easy to navigate and port (no pirate puns intended) to whatever project you have in mind. Love it!”
“As always from Pimoroni when you get such a bit of hardware in your hand you know that it will work flawlessly. Good python library and example script from the mad moustache guy named Gadgetoid, and an incredibly good looking PCB design.
On that Pimoroni is really consistent and they deserve a lot of our praise for these details.
For the kit itself, well it is as simple as it look, you have a Red/White/Black e-Ink screen that you can plug on top of your Raspberry Pi. The black is dark, the red vivid after a full refresh.
The problems with this screen are not Pimoroni's fault, but the refresh time is super slow (10-15s!!), and the bi-stability is not super good compared to eReaders e-ink screen as white tend to become pink-ish, and red fade a bit overtime.
A few word of caution for people who don't have experience with eInk screen:
1 - The back of the screen, the part glued on the PCB, is made of glass, and any hit on it can break it and it is generally not visible on the surface, if your screen start to display weird thing. the back is probably broken, and you will have to replace the full screen.
2 - Don't mess with the init setting in the Pimoroni library if you don't have a good knowledge about e-Ink screen, you can permanently damage the screen if you change these setting, and I'm really serious there.”
