“I tried fitting a couple these (male and female) with the Jig, both with limited success.
In the first instance not all the pins went into the holes, a couple pushed back through the plastic so they did not give good contact so had to solder them anyway.
In the second case I got all good contacts but the pins were bent.
The pins on these hammer headers are not as strong as the solderable ones and seem to be easily bent.
Also frequent removal and replacement of my hats soon bends them too.
I'm not sure I'll bother with them again, as they are just not strong enough.
Guess I'll have to learn to solder.”
“the instructions are slightly different to the reality.
it actually comes with a few nuts that you should use to hold the pi in place.
also, the pi and the plastic started to bend, after a bit of hammering, because there is a noticeable gap underneath which is introduced by the screw heads. i found i had to put a bit of folded paper between the screw heads to actually get the the pins to slot into the pi, instead of just bending in the middle.
but otherwise no problems, simple stuff”
“Honestly, just solder pins on. Don't misunderstand these work but they don't work as hastle free as you think it would. If you are really bad at soldering then yes, this might be a good answer for you so you don't have solder all over the gaf. For me though all it did was break the plastic camera port insert and as far as I can tell no one sells spares of that piece.
If you can solder, don't bother buying this, if you have trouble soldering or just want a solder free solution, give this a try.
One thing I will admit though, it is faster than soldering.”
“I watched the video, fixed the male header onto my pi zero, fixed the female onto my envirophat, put them together, plugged it in and it worked!! And I didn't even bash my thumb.
What would make it even better is a colour-coded male header option.
ps I've ordered more”
“Arrived quickly, I received the 2nd version of this, with the black metal screws. There is a difference between the you tube video and the way the MK2 jig works, although instructions have now been added to the worksheet, some pictures would be nice.
The only minor complaint (hence 4 stars) is the thickness of the plastic strips used to protect the pins from the hammer is slightly too thick, this could just be that i did not force the male header far enough down on the PI, however it did prevent the screws from being affixed to the bottom of the jig until a cautionary couple of hits with a hammer pushed the pins in far enough for the screws to be attached.”
“Am new to this Pi revolution and electronics in general, the thought of soldering had me more than a little worried about breaking my new Pi ZeroW.
However, watched the Vid an two minutes later had mine done to perfection.
Great idea, great components, expert advise”
