“It is so simple to assembe this piace of hw,
on the software part I use only wifi - found manuals how to configure https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/wiki/Wifi-Preconfiguration
everything take me app. 1 hour with coffee of corse (I have 58 years :))
I must configure Cisco ASA, so that my wife Will se what dog's do when we leave house.
Conclusion: Another fine piece of hw for nice price from Pimoroni in those cloudy day's :)
Have funn and explore :)”
“So bought this for my son to help him get started with raspberry pi and the coding world as he's starting secondary school in Sept I wanted something that had a end result of being visually rewarding.
The guide online was great but no knowing what "boot" or partition" meant the 30min suggest time in getting it running turned into 2hrs. We struggled to get the wifi connected and it keep shutting and rebooting again. But if it worked 1st time I suppose that wouldn't be fun. We done some fault finding and we learned were it was going wrong and hey presto! One happy child !
It's good he's learnt about software loading, fault finding and hardware!”
“For the longest time I was using 2 Rpi2 with a ring box to house the camera. Each time I'd open my window shades I'd have to reposition the camera, the OctoCam changed all that. I purchased 1 initially and bought a 2nd soon after.
If you want to get the best performance, consistent 25 fps real-time no lag, I'd suggest using Debian Stretch and installing v4l2rtspserver. I used a PoE adapter to hard wire the PiZero to my network. I fiddled around with the spacers provided and angled the board to get a better view of the area I wanted.
The best part is that it doesn't look a camera at all, but rather a window decoration lol.”
“My son assembled this with help from a youtube video. Unfortunately we haven't got it running yet as it requires a microSD card and reader but we don't have a reader for our card.
So I have bought the Pi Zero W Starter Kit which comes with an SD adapter.
Disclaimer: I received the Octocam for free.”
“I bought this so my wife who is quadriplegic could see what was going on outside by viewing the images on her ipad. Have to say its a fantastic piece of kit for the price. Used the online instructions to assemble and then download the software, set up the sd card. Altogether took about 45 minutes. The software is really simple to use and the images are great quality. Suggest 10fps if your going to record the images but for streaming through the home network just bang it up to 25fps. My wife was really pleased with it as now she can see whats going on in the world and it put me in the good books for a while, happy days :)”
“Before getting this kit I already had built a "security camera" using the PiView mounting plate. Like then I built this kit with no issues, and it worked right first time. This camera, in a funny package, will make my mother very happy!”
“This is a great kit!, all parts inside to build a tiny security camera together with the nice motionEye OS software.
Just stick it on a window to watch the outside of your home, and as mentioned capturing images when motion is detected make's this tiny device more than worth's it's money.”
