Great product, but (uncharacteristically for Pimoroni!) I felt left in the dark a little. So to save you some head-scratching... 1) If you run wires to it, the only connections you need are 5v, Ground, BCM4 and BCM17. 2) The code for the clean shutdown daemon is at https://github.com/pimoroni/clean-shutdown - it's obvious when you know - this should probably be linked from this page (or did I miss it?) 3) I spent some minutes wondering why the shutdown wasn't working - turns out you need to press the button for a tiny while, set in the associated config file (see the link above) and defaulting to "1" which I take to be 1 second - it needs a "long" press. I'm hoping to build a PI Zero W into a consumer product and this solves the on/off problem brilliantly, so am genuinely delighted with it.

Elegant little on/off switch, easy to install but tricky to solder if you want to fit a pHAT on top - especially if you're a bit cackhanded like me. I've soldered it on and it works a treat but I don't think I'm going to be able to fit a header connector on top because it's really hard to avoid getting solder all over the pins. That means I can't use this RP the way I'd intended which is frustrating.

I bought one of these for my wireless Pi Zero, it took me about 5 minutes to solder the connector to the board, connected it up, pressed the tiny button and it worked first time. It definitely beats continual plugging and unplugging of the USB power cable!

For ВЈ6, this is a bargain! Not only is it a breeze to install and setup, you can also add your own button to the SHIM to trigger the On / Off function! I'm building a Pi Zero RetroPie setup inside an old NES cartridge, and this little SHIM is perfect as I can quickly solder it to the Pi Zero, connect an external button and mount this to the NES cartridge and safely shutdown / power on my Pi without worry! It is also so small that you can use HATs / pHATs too! I suspect I may buy a few more of these in the future...

Have been looking/dreaming of something like this for ages and so happy i've found it, amazing work guys! The only minor problem is as it's designed for a regulated 5v supply you cant tell the battery level, but hopefully they'll do a lipo version later which will provide this additional feature. Amazing work!!

This Shim resolves all On/Off issues! Looks nice! Fits perfect on a pi, with or without soldering. Dummy proof software installation! A must have for headless projects or other people than you who have to shutdown the pi

I was literally going bananas when I heard about this as had needed an on off switch for multiple portable projects and also for my Phat Dac. Prior to owning one these I was forever corrupting SD cards and draining batteries whilst using Scroll Phat HD as a portable message board or having to SSH in to my Pi Zero and type in sudo shutdown etc. Now I just press the button and it all shuts down nicely. Also I am eagerly waiting for more Shove Hardware In (the) Middle SHIMs - what will be next me hearties?
