Funny little radio, easy to build. Looks very good with the Stereospeaker. It's my second raspberry-project and it was difficult for me to install the software. The Pirateradio-SW didn't start, with the Stretch I had some problems too. Now it works but I have to start the radio a few time till it works. If it works it sounds good with the small speakers. Till now I did not find a way to erase the radiostations that come with the software and save my stations. Winscp doesn't show me the file with the stations. Till now I had some fun, the radio looks funny and the sound is good.

I love the Pirate Radio, I bought it for my mom as an internet-radio-for-dummies, just a few buttons thats it. In the summer I had trouble setting it up, but now it worked first time. Not sure what went wrong at first. One thing : the how-to got me confused as to where I could find the default list of radio stations. In my clean install the file ended up being here : /home/pi/Pimoroni/phatbeat/projects/vlc-radio/vlcd/etc/vlcd/default.m3u Have fun, Peter

The Pirate Radio is a Gem! It works like a charm. Very easy to build. But how can I store some MP3 files in the Media folder of the PI through WiFi and a Windows Program such as Win SCP or Filezilla ? It seems one have only read rights . How can I change that? Thx a lot for that fine project which needs just a few fine tuning to be a KILLER.

This is a fun little kit and, as you'd expect from Pimoroni, lovingly packaged. It didn't take long to put together but I liked that it pushed me to use a soldering iron for the first time in over 20 years! Thankfully I managed to wield it successfully first go (well, mostly - I just need to investigate why the pHAT BEAT buttons aren't working) and now have a cute AirPlay speaker to use around the house. Just a few minor niggles that mean this isn't a 5 star review: * The design of the plastic parts means the legs end up rather wobbly. * The one-line installer is excellent but i would've liked to have a more manual alternative in order to better understand what's going on (you're not alone, Bruno!). * Like Lorraine, i'd like to have an SD card included (even a 4gb tiddler) for the price. * I think a couple of longer nylon bolts (+nuts) could be provided, in order to better support the Pi Zero board. I feel like I might snap it from the header when pushing in cables, etc. I also reckon something could be done with the bolts to help tie back the speaker cable.

Let's face it black is the new blue... Really like the kit, the VU meter looks great and it is certainly LOUD enough! I had some fun getting to work, and it is currently sat on my desk playing the top 10. I will proabably see if I can get it to work with 'mpd' later. Users should also note that the case doesn't lend itself to enclosing the Pi Zero or DAC, and to iluminate all the LEDs you needs to turn the volume right up...

After hours and hours of checking, coding, downloading, re-downloading, emailing and searching/ posting on the forum I just can not get this to work. Really disappointed as my ultimate reason for getting a raspberry pi is to build an internet radio. Gave up in the end, now I have a radio shaped paper weight :(
