“The assembly went really smoothly. Now I am waiting for missing hdmi cable to make it work. One thing that is missing in the instructions is what to do after assembly for newbies like me who have never started a raspberry pi. Had to find some other tutorial (not a huge problem though :p )”

I plan to write a service with a python Flask interface to control the Unicorn pHAT and schedule pattern/color changes.”
“I've wanted a simple 'status light' to gift to a friend for a long time, but my bare LEDs and exposed circuit boards wouldn't work for her. This kit is simple enough for anyone with a little soldering experience, and the assembly is on par with a small lego set. The software for the unicorn pHAT comes with BOTH python 2 and 3 libraries. That alone should sell it!
I do wish it came with an SD card, as that can be a deal breaker if you don't have one on hand, but for the price it's not a big deal.
I've already ordered another to put together with my niece, and will be assembling some others to give as gifts.

In short:
18-19 = yellow light indicating bedtime is coming.
19-06 = red light indicicating it's night time.
06-08 = green indicating it's okay to get up now.
08-18 = off

“This is a cool little project, it comes in a lovely presented box.
Its not a hugely complex kit and is fairly easy to put together
The down sides are the need to solder, I knew this as it does say, but the Pi didn't do to well being soldered and i need to fix it. So make sure you get the hammer heads or can solder
It would be nice if it included a small SD card too, because you only need a small card and the ones on Amazon were a bit OTT for this project.

“Very easy to build and fun to play with, going to use it as a notification light for email. The only complaint I could have is that it is kind of flimsy. It is meant to stay on your desk and would not be great for a kid to play with over and over.”
