“Awesome product, helps you to get started with python. Also, as it's Christmas, I thought I would make a Santa tracker! here is the GitHub link if you like: https://github.com/appledeej/DisplayotronHAT-Santa-Tracker”
“Very good quality display, I use it as a clock and i'm planning to add social media stats! Super bright LED's and really good resistive buttons, worth every bit.”
“Although my needs are quite modest there's oodles of functionality here which makes the DotHAT extremely versatile. I'm also very impressed with the documentation and the breadth of programming examples which illustrate the capabilities very nicely.
I'm using it as a control panel in a maker project - you can read the blog post I wrote about this aspect of the build here: https://pleasereleaseme.net/build-raspberry-pi-vehicle-interior-monitor-screen-test.”
“Simple and easy control and interaction with your project. Can be set up as a local controlpanel. Background colour can be used to indicate status of program/system. Clear textmessages you can set up for yourself.”
“The Displayotron hardware is top notch (beautiful display, clear text, and the back lighting really makes the display pop). Like other reviewers have stated, the buttons on the left side of the screen are a little tough to get too, but that's a minor inconvenience (I'd rather have small buttons than no buttons at all). I guess my only minor complaint lies in the software examples. It took me forever to figure out that the plugins folder from the main "displayotron" folder needed to be copied over to the examples folder to work. Luckily, I had Pimoroni's forum to rescue me. I've used many other LCD backpacks and hats in the past, and I have to say this is the nicest of the lot.”
“Are you ready to give your pi some flair when it outputs text? This is the little guy to do it!
Sample code will get you up to speed in no time flat, and you will have an exciting little output with color and flash no time flat.”
“Accidentally added two to my basket and didn't realise until they were paid for and arrived...so much fun I ended up buying another Pi to use with the spare displayotron.
Never used Python before, but within a few hours of looking at the examples from Pimoroni/free online codeacadmey python course - started to get the hang of it. Now using one to monitor/control my Pi webserver and the other for a backup server - can start/stop camera streaming, backup files etc at the touch of a button going through the menus, hardly ever have to log on to the servers anymore. Looks ace too :D”
