“This is an awesome lens for PCB inspection work. I sort of wish you could get a little farther away with it given a reasonable stand height, but at the close end, this really shows you what's going on on a board with a good bit of working airspace to boot.”
“Excellent close up macro images.
Requires fairly strong ambient lighting, or something closer like some LEDs
Yields ~ 250 pixels/mm @ 75mm from lens front,
for reference: ~70x on a 0.2767mm dot pitch monitor (which is near actual print size @ 96dpi)
Not quite what I'd call a microscope, (between the low and middle settings of a primary student microscope,) but much better than a magnifying glass”
“I am interested in using this lens to focus in on 8mm film. I have used previous incarnations of pi camera, but they have been difficult to match with lenses and mounts that were placed on top of the cmos elements. Whereas, in this case, C and CS lenses are all up for trial with the new HQ lens. What I like about this Pimoroni lens, is that it has a good linearity and good zoom magnification. I have yet to set it up with a film frame and backlight but from initial tests on 2d measured subjects it looks very good, clean and distortion free for macro and microscopic work. The fact that the HQ camera is controllable means that I can use different controlledRGB illuminating sources on the target and different light controls on the camera. I would highly recommend this low cost, quality lens to anybody experimenting with film scanners, microscopes, surface mount / pcb qa etc , as the lens is very easy to focus and yields excellent results at a very low cost.”
