“Good lens and very stable base (heavy and substantial). The image is clear, precise, with little distortion visually (have not yet checked this with test pattern).
For initial testing (with object placed on the base), I set the retaining ring at about 110 mm above the base (distance from the bottom of the ring to the top of the base) - with the holder resting on the retaining ring. At this setting, the distance between the front of the lens and the object is about 60 mm.
A couple areas for improvement: in the stand I received, the cuttings from the tapping (for the lock screw) was not cleaned (the cuttings can be easily scrapped off using a flat blade screw driver, but I shouldn't need to do that). The lock screw and the lens body, both metal, do not provide a firm lock (I did not comfortable setting the screw too tight as it had already scratch the surface of the lens body). As a temporary fix, I wrap an electric tape around the lens body to increase the friction and improve the grip. The fix worked well so far and I can turn the magnification ring without turning the lens body.”
