“Nice case overall aestheticly, handy to have all ports at rear. Argon40.com have 2x full size HDMI ports, I was happy with the mini HDMI of Raspberry PI 4.
Fan control is not so easy, there are numerous forums with extra numerous links to script for fan control, argon40.com have some scripts for PI OS, Libreelec and RetrpArch. If your a linux wiz and can build from github, crack on.
Build wise, the case under my usage rarely activates the fan I have set at argon default values under PI OS, LE and RetroArch. I think defaults are
55°C - 10% fan speed
60°C - 50% fan speed
65°C - 100% fan speed
Case acts as a heatsink and is maybe thicker grade steel, this maybe diminishes RF signals from the Raspberry PI board.
WiFi and Bluetooth signals are weakened by this case.
Pimoroni are a company local to me in South Yorkshire, England and at NO TIME have they rewarded me with a single trebor basset gummy in return for this review.”
“It just...Works! Very stylish, easy to assemble, and it would seem a lot of thought has gone into it. I was impressed with the quality, and the decent manual, (without which, well I could have got it going, it is that easy, but the manual made it quicker!)
I like the configurable fan speed, and with normal usage, 50C has not yet been reached. The rear on-off button has several functions, and these work well, and reliably.
Overall, it is a great unit, and I am very pleased I got one.”
“These cases are a real treat for the Raspberry Pi enthusiast. My cases up until now have been purely functional which is fine, but this case adds a touch of style to the Pi, and that doesn’t even begin to cover the functionality improvements offered by the case, namely the ability to house an SSD drive. This to me makes a big difference to the way the Raspberry Pi performs, although that may be due to going from a Pi 3 to Pi 4, also the inclusion of a power button makes the device a joy to use.
Backed up with excellent customer service from Pimorroni, this has been a joy to me!
Well done to all!”
“Suffering from a Noisy fan on startup for the first 5 minutes, need to jiggle the casing to make it cease sooner. Brilliant quality/design, well worth the money. Outside of case runs very hot to touch decided to have the fan on 100% of the time, Pi CPU temp at all workloads never goes above 43 degrees”
