“Just got it up and running. Works great, using the provided images so far and loving it. took a little bit of fiddling to find the "minicom pX" command to run though.”
“Oh man... Just gadget mode over the USB cables.
I'm sure someone is happy about this device, but I cannot think of how they logically would get there.
I was underwhelmed and unimpressed with the vendor site; the ad-hoc commands to troubleshoot and think I came away with "why does this thing exist?"
It doesn't fit into any cases, isn't deep enough to make contact with the connectors within official raspberry pi cases, OKDO pi3 or pi4 cases or stacking cases, as well as some 3D printed cases I'd had before which do work with Pi-TFT deeper 40-pin connector.
It only "worked" without under-voltage warning despite trying various 2.5A PSU's on Pi3, by switching to the Pi4 with OKDO power supply.
When I say worked, I take the manufacturers word for it that it "worked" as intended, as in my mind it barely worked. It needed me to connect to serial to wake up the slow usb-ethernet so that I could SSH into the devices using stock vendor images.
In contrast when using some of the short USB-A to micro-B cables, the Pi-zero's were faster, more responsive, and worked without some vendor-image.
Chris was very attentive and tried very hard to provide support, although it did feel very off-the-cuff.
Ultimately it not being turn-key and having behavior that surprised me as a user and IT professional, rubbed me the wrong way. I'm mildly furious that I wasted the money on this and could not recommend it to anyone. The 2 stars was because of the speed with which Chris replied.”
