Agree with a lot of what Chris B said below with a few exceptions... The 34 is heavy but reassuringly so, its a mark of quality and longevity, its on wheels with lockable casters which make it a breeze to move around then lock in position. Difficulty in assembly i can't comment ours came pre-assembled but that is an option that Riverside offer so worry no more on that score. The optional front shelf is certainly sturdy and well made but i thought it very reasonably priced and a doddle to fit when compared to other makes as is the double smoke shelf option which massively increases the already ample cooking area to cater for multiple chickens burgers ribs and brisket. "Burgers don't sear and sausages anemic" not in our experience sausages have been a killer and most sought after item for us feeding the public and at home when placed on the std extra shelf at the back which is an area of higher more direct heat just right for sausages coming out smokey and browned with an awesome snap and oh so juicy... perfectly seared burgers are also possible with the simple addition of a heavy cast iron pan or skillet which most homes will have no need for a 2nd bbq, start your Traeger and smoke your burger whilst pre heating the pan inside before then searing off the burgers.. #simples All in its a very cost effective and damned easy to use smoker/grill and oven that burns clean and efficiently, no messy charcoal to load lights at the flick of a switch and holds temps like a champ... Don't just take our word for it, get down to riverside and try the demo model for yourself, we liked it so much we took one to Grillstock festival Bristol and cooked our way to 2nd place in Brisket (1 point behind the winner) 2nd place in pork (only 2 points behind the winner) with another 2 top 10 category scores taking us to 2nd overall and Reserve Grand Champions against 29 of the best teams around! Its a must have for Pro's and amateurs alike and we will be keeping ours for both home and competition use, its just simply that versatile!

Great service again from Riverside and it arrived on a palette well protected for transit. The courier even hand carted the whole thing to where I wanted it. The 34 is heavy but easy enough to assemble though putting the legs on the 34 is certainly a two person task. I added the front shelf, which I would highly recommend as a work area although it is pricey for what it is. Once all put together it is sturdy and well made. Yes you can do all the things you would do on a barbecue and on the 34, lots of it at once! Its not really what it does best though. Burgers don’t really sear and sausages stay a bit anaemic looking. You can, however, add the sear by doing most of the cooking on the Traeger and then finishing off on a Weber Kettle (the so called reverse sear) Burgers done this way take on a nice smoke finish. It does take some of the panic out of doing a barbecue for lots of people though. Things like chicken wings and legs, however, work brilliantly (and safely) as do homemade Kofta Kebabs. I’m certainly glad I went for the 34 over the 22 as it has been pretty full a few times! Ribs, Brisket, whole chickens, pork shoulder etc are where it really excels. Long cook times over low heat brings a certain magic to those cheaper cuts of meat though patience is needed. For a 10lb pork shoulder expect to be cooking it for 12 hours to hit the magic 195f internal temperature, at which point the meat is meltingly tender, for pulled pork. The included temperature probes are a real bonus for doing these sorts of cuts and seem accurate when compared to a digital meat thermometer. I have used it for ribs, pulled pork (it was so good first time around it was back on the menu a few days later), a whole ham, kebabs, hot smoked salmon and a whole chicken. All have worked brilliantly. Pulled pork done on the Traeger is unlike anything you have tasted from anywhere else. Several rubs and sauces are available online but I quite like Butt Rub and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce for pulled pork. The grill dial is in Centigrade but the included recipe book (and most others) are in Fahrenheit so keep a conversion chart handy. Having the dial marked in both scales would have been simpler. Cleaning up is easy if you cover the drip plate with tin foil and the small amount of residual ash is easily removed with a vacuum. The grill grates are ceramic coated and clean easily in warm water, they are also pretty much non stick for most things though Salmon skin does adhere. Mine has now been used some 50 odd hours and I have gone through about 2 1/2 bags of pellets. It therefore uses a bit less than 1lb~£1 an hour. Not too bad considering the cost of electricity if using a conventional oven or the cost of decent grade charcoal. A highly recommended read is Meathead Goldwyns book The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling. As well as some great recipes it covers a lot of the science behind slow cooking and is packed with useful tips. Bottom line is I love the Traeger to bits but as an addition to a conventional barbecue rather than a replacement.
