Boss Katana KTN100 Electric Guitar Amp Combo Reviews

5 Rating 2 Reviews

Great Sound & Reliable Amp Good For Gigs This is one of the latest products from Boss it has 100w power and you can be sure you will be heard with this specific amp Boss Katana KTN100 Electric Guitar Amp Combo What We Think The Boss Katana is currently one of the best combo amplifiers available in today’s market. Its immense range of versatility and tones give more than enough leverage for any playing style, from funk and blues to rock and heavy metal. This amp creates a massive sound from its 12” speaker in its resonating cabinet, and can sound even better when propped up and tilted on its rear stand. With the option of 5 different channels, dozens of effects and wattage control, you can obtain any sound in your head with ease. As Boss are responsible for some of the most famous guitar pedals known, its no surprise that they would create an amplifier of the highest quality, keeping up with their great reputation. Its built In effects are distinctively boss pedal tones, so you’re pretty much equipped for most scenarios that need good quality effects and tones. Its wattage control also gives you a great dynamic system, making the amp perform at its best on any volume. This amp is digital, and therefore you can alter its settings via the katana app and can also download patches and updates for an even more immense range of tones and effects. I would recommend this amp to any guitar player, beginner or pro. It honestly will not disappoint. The boss Katana is an extremely versatile amplifier at a great affordable price. The great stand out feature of this is the ‘leave you pedal at home’ functionality. It has built in Boss pedals, 58 of them infact, which you can access anytime to sculpt your tone to your playing style. The amp has unarguably a great tone and is very refined for ease of use making it appealing for a first time amp or that of someone whom has been playing for years. Southport Store The boss Katana KTN-100 is a bedroom practice amp on steroids! It has enough power to be gigged with because of its power scaling function (from 100w to 50w to 0.5w) with loads of cool effects, programmable presets and a few different amp styles. Amp Sounds The amp has got 5 different amp styles that you can choose from: Clean - Crystal clean sounds Crunch - A touch of overdrive with mild breakup Lead - Higher gain for stinging blues solos or fast shred! Brown - Super high-gain sound taken from the Japanese Boss Waza amp Acoustic - Amazing acoustic setting so that you can use the amp with your electro-acoustic guitar Effects Available So once you have chosen your amp sound and set your EQ (Bass, Middle, Treble) you can choose the effects you want to run. The amp has got effects on board but you also have access to 55 other effects through the BOSS tone studio app. You can connect your amp to your computer via USB and then upload the specific effect you want on the amp and save it as a preset. A maximum of 3 effects can run simultaneously but you can choose what those effects will be. If you want simple drive, chorus and reverb you can do so. But if you want to be more experimental by combining ring mod with a slicer then you can set that up with the Tone Studio. It has 4 memory slots for you to save you favourite sounds and quickly recall them. For example, you could load up a mild rhythm overdrive on tone slot 1 and a screaming lead with loads of delay on tone slot 2 etc. This amp has 2 more slots than its little brother the Katana KTN50. If you want to use a foot controller to switch between your favourite sounds, the Boss GA-FC can act as a channel switcher and the amp takes your pedals really well too. Power Scaling The power scaling is an idea borrowed from the Katanas Blues Cube brother where you choose if you want the amp to run at 100w for full volume and power or down to 0.5w for late night bedroom use. It makes the amp really useful if you want 1 unit that can do band practices, as well use it at home without waking the neighbours. And because it has a 12" speaker, you can play with a band without losing too much low end or worrying about your guitar sounding too thin in the mix. Fundamentally this is a great sounding and very versatile amp. It has acoustic, clean, crunch, lead and 'brown' models with lots of built in effects. You can use two effects plus reverb at any time and can upload and tweak a whole load of effects from the internet. In conjunction with the GA-FC controller, you can scroll through four models and the 'panel' (which is what the amp knobs are set at) and additionally turn effect on or off. The amp is well built for the money, definitely gig-worthy and has a good sonic range. There are other amps in which the range of sounds is more easily accessible, for example through Bluetooth - the software for this needs a laptop or PC and a USB connection which does seem a bit clunky. That said, you can set up banks of sounds for a gig or for different uses and load them up for your PC. It's kind of a swiss army knife amp which could be used for acoustic guitar on one gig and rock on another. I especially like the built in 'boost' function so you can kick in an overdrive etc as part of the sound. For what you get, it's incredible value for money but you are limited as to how many sounds and effects you can use at any one time without re-programming it from a PC. So, don't expect total access to all the effects at once because you can't do that. Best of all, the sounds are great.
