For an acoustic guitar amp this little baby is the bees knees. Terrific sound. Fairly loud for it's size (27x12x11cm roughly), but not tinny or transistor radioish like some are. Has a decent smattering of inbuilt effects (compressor, chorus, delay, echo and reverb) that are accessed on 2 knobs - compressor, echo and chorus on one that blend from comp thru comp/echo to chorus, and delay, reverb and hall on the other blending delay into delay/reverb into hall as you twist the knob. It also has a number of guitar amp/mic presets accessed via another knob. There is condenser, dynamic, tube, nylon and electric guitar clean, all of which supply some very nice tones to build on. To be honest, it's such a straight forward amp to use, with so much included already, that most acoustic guitarist may not have to look elsewhere for extra sound manipulation. But it can also be the heart of great soundscape system. It can be used on it's own or you can even plug it into a bigger speaker/cabinet, or even a stereo system as it produces a brilliant stereo sound with it's two minute speakers. I've included a photo of mine alongside my Loar LH200SN acoustic, to show how tiny it is. Very portable - and it runs off batteries so you can take it anywhere even if there's no mains supply!

I bought the THR5a to connect with yamaha silent guitar. It took an evening experimenting with the controls to get the sound i wanted as i have no experiance of amps as i play classical guitar. Once i have got used to settings i am very pleased with the results. I have also connected an i pod to the amp (with the cable suplied) and the sound quality was very good. This has opened up the possibilities of playing duets or even concertos. Very good value.

Very happy with this little amp. I am still familiarising myself with it. So far I have trailed the various microphone simulation options using the amp for practice. All are usable as are the effects (delay, compression, chorus, reverb etc). I have started to experiment with the amp as a a sort of preamp into a PA system using the headphone output for the connection. This is of interest to me in that my mixer only permits one type of fact for all channels. This allows me to process the guitar differently from the vocals. The unit is very compact, the volume is OK for practice, the mains/battery power option is a good point. My sole minus point is the enclosed manual which refers to a software editing program being on an enclosed disc. There is no disc. The seller advised this is now a download. Come on Yamaha update the manual.
