<h2>Sikagard® 552 W Aquaprimer is a one component, water dispersed primer, offering excellent adhesion to water dispersed, polymer paint coatings, and complying with the requirements of EN 1504-2 for superior protection against water ingress.</h2> <h3>Best Uses</h3> <p>Sikagard® 552 W Aquaprimer is best used in areas where moisture and humidity is a concern and works as part of a system that protects the substrate and ensures a long term protective solution. Ideal as a priming coat for concrete and dense mineral substrates like fibre cement, aerated concrete, gypsum and thin rendering such as<a href="https://www.promain.co.uk/sika-monotop-620.html"><strong> Sika® MonoTop®-620</strong></a> etc.</p> <p>Sikagard®-552 W Aquaprimer can also be used as a primer on firmly adhering existing water based coatings or under cement resurfacing mortar to improve<br />the adhesion in case of concrete surface treated with hydrophobic impregnation. Sikagard®-552 W Aquaprimer is part of a system: Suitable for protection against ingress (Principle 1, method 1.3 of EN 1504-9), Suitable for moisture control (Principle 2, method 2.3 of EN 1504-9), Suitable for increasing the resistivity (Principle 8,<br />method 8.3 of EN 1504-9).</p> <ul> <li>Water dispersed - solvent-free</li> <li>Environmentally friendly</li> <li>Water vapour permeable</li> <li>Can be used as an adhesion promoter for coating or cement based resurfacing mortar</li> </ul> <h3>Application</h3> <p>The substrate must be dense and free from loose and friable particles. Tensile strength of the substrate must be more than 1 N/mm2. Exposed concrete without existing coating. Suitable preparation methods are steam cleaning, high pressure water jetting or blastcleaning. New concrete must be at least 28 days old.</p> <p><strong>Thin layer rendering</strong>: If required, a levelling pore sealer/smoothing coat (e.g. <a href="https://www.promain.co.uk/sika-monotop-620.html"><strong>Sika® MonoTop®-620</strong></a>, <a href="https://www.promain.co.uk/sikagard-545-w-elastofill.html"><strong>Sikagard®-545 W Elastofill</strong></a>, etc.) shall be applied – refer to the respective product data sheet. For cement based products, allow a curing time of at least 4 days before priming. Exposed concrete with existing coating<br />Existing coatings must be tested to confirm their adhesion to the substrate - adhesion test average: > 1.0 N/mm2 with no single value below 0.7 N/mm2 for subsequent top rigid coating; > 0.8 N/mm2 with no single value below 0.5 N/mm2 for subsequent top elastic coating respectively.</p> <ul> <li>For water based coating, use Sikagard®-552 W Aquaprimer as primer</li> <li>For solvent based coating, use <a href="https://www.promain.co.uk/sika-sikagard-551s-elastic-primer.html"><strong>Sikagard®-551 S Elastic Primer</strong></a> - refer to separate data sheet</li> <li>If coating type is unknown, carry out adherence testing to determine which primer is most suitable - wait at least 2 weeks after application prior to conduct the adhesion test as per EN 1542</li> </ul> <h3>Surface and Environment</h3> <p>Sikagard® 552 W Aquaprimer has been designed for application to concrete, and dense mineral substrates such as, fibre cement, aerated concrete, gypsum and smooth coatings like Sika Monotop 610.</p>
