This review is prompted by passersby commenting on the results in the hope that it will encourage or inform others! This is the first time I have sown seeds of any kind and the results have been humbling. A year or two of taking the strimmer to the verge covered in weeds outside our house, only for the same weeds to grow back stronger prompted me to try something different. I killed off everything, used a rake to lightly scrape a tough/dry topsoil in late April and then used a hand held seed spreader from ProGreen to spread seed evenly as possible. I bought the Richmond pallete wild flower seeds along with St James's wild flower seeds and spread them on 23 April 2020. On 12 June 2020, the first of the wild flowers actually flowered. As I write this on 07 July 2020, flowers are flourishing in bloom and others are still to flower, I have had nothing but admiration and kind comments from people walking by the verge in our lane and enquiring where I bought the wild flower seeds from, as they have said that they had previously tried to grow wild flowers from seed with little or no results. Of course I mentioned the ProGreen website, if only to encourage others to be successful in sowing wildflower seeds which can only benefit verges and gardens wherever the seeds are sown. The passersby have often asked what I done to achieve the results - so here it is: 1. Killed off weeds. 2. Waited according to weedkiller instructions for suitable time afterwards to lay seeds. 3. Put the 2 seed mixtures and grass seed into a large Tupperware box with lid on and gave a good shake to mix all seeds. 4. Lightly raked topsoil before spreading seeds. 5. Spread seeds with hand held seed spreader. 6. Again lightly raked to cover some seeds but not all (you could put down a thin scattering of topsoil - I did not bother). 7. Watered every day for several weeks. 8. Once established, I have never watered and wild flowers have flourished in their environment. Wild flowers flourish in nutritional poor soils. what this means is that there is no need to use fertilisers of any kind. Just water daily until stalks become established - I watered until the stalks were 3-4 inches in height (well before any buds were present) and left them to continue growing. Step 9. Enjoy!!
