“I used Si3D originally as part of the ‘Ultra’ kit along with EX, BC, SiFinish, etc, and although I’m far from a novice I had a tough time applying it. Things went ok with the EX and BC but when it came to the Si3D it just didn’t seem to ‘agree’ with the BC applied before it, leaving shadows and high spots that looked awful. I consulted with Nanolex UK and they were kind enough to respond pretty quickly advising that perhaps it was too warm when applied (ambient temp was 22 deg that day so not especially warm to my mind) or that applying in direct sunlight was a no-no (I didn’t but for part of the application it’s possible sunlight was filtering through the tinted roof of my carport) and that I needed to remove more of the Si3D residue with the applicator before buffing with a MF cloth (the instructions say “very little residue” but in hindsight I think they should say “NO residue”). Ultimately I had to polish off everything and start again, this time not bothering with the BC, and made sure I applied the Si3D on a cooler day with no sunlight whatsoever! I also paid more attention to removing the product’s residue completely with the applicator before buffing, and had much more success. Not the best experience overall considering the cost involved, but the end result certainly seems durable and gloss level is good (although not noticeably better than a good glaze & wax combo). The very narrow operating window in terms of application lets it down for me, hence the 3 star rating.”
Hi Jeremy, we're glad you got there in the end! As per our how to use guidelines, you do need to keep spreading this product until it completely disappears, before then finishing the levelling process by buffing the treated area with a suitable towel. Your final results look great!
