The hotel is located in a very picturesque landscape with a beautiful decoration inside. If we had come here without our dogs, our stay would certainly be completely different. When I booked this hotel, I checked all the information regarding the stay for our dogs and I was very positive that everything would be ok. When we arrived, the receptionist greeted us very coldly and we were not offered a welcome drink. So we went to the room to unpack and went back to the reception for more information about our stay. It turned out that if you have a dog, the hotel does not provide anywhere to eat lunch or dinner except in your own room (where the menu is very limited). We were very surprised because we could eat breakfast in the lobby. Half of the menu they offer for animals was not available, and the sausages they serve have spices and garlic, the grevy they serve, the lady at the reception said they use instant from a can. There is a menu, but I would never serve any of these meals to my dog because I know it would be harmful and we would look later for a veterinary. After talking to the manager, we came to an agreement that we could have dinner in the conservatory where we would not disturb other guests. I was very happy because it was a dinner celebrating my partner's 40th birthday. When we came for dinner, the waiter who served us said at the beginning he doesn't like dogs and is afraid of them... I don't understand why he was assigned to us since they say on their website that they are dog friendly. The atmosphere was not the best either for the waiter who was constantly grimacing or for us because he must be in such an uncomfortable situation. We skipped the next evening meals so as not to tire the staff. Strangely enough, at breakfast, the waiters who served us were very nice and understanding. To sum up, the hotel claims to be dog friendly, but putting dog beds and a bowl in the room is not dog friendly. Lack of access to any rooms except the lobby and locking the owners in their rooms for the duration of their stay is an unacceptable agreement. The menu is another joke. I will introduce a few amenities such as: - dark covers for the white sofas in the rooms, a menu that does not contain any dangerous ingredients, a place where dog owners can eat together would certainly make us feel more welcome there

I could not fault the hotel my visit was splendid. All the staff were helpful and friendly. My Border Terrier Lola enjoyed having a patio to sniff. The walk to the lake a delight.

The garden suites are newly refurbished, and of a very high standard. The position and the grounds are lovely, and the spa is great. However, the service is very patchy, reminiscent of Fawlty Towers at times, and much of the rest of the hotel is tired and in need of some tlc. The back-of-house areas are very visible all around the property, including the staff smoking areas, generators and bins. There are more spaces where dogs are not allowed than the other way around. The food is very expensive and not all that interesting. We stayed five nights and the menu did not change at all. The new Bistro near the spa has yet to mature and the waitress spent most of the evening texting with her back to the room. Overall, disappointing

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Could do with a safe for valuables.
The hotel was excellent. The accommodation for us with our Cairn terrier could not have been any better. Would highly recommend this hotel to dog owners. Plenty of walks and overlooks the lake. Spa, with outside jacuzzi for us, was a bonus. Will definitely visit again.

Really enjoyed our stay at Armathwaite Hall. Whilst dogs cannot dine with their owners in the restaurants there is a great area with open fire near the bar to relax and have drinks with your dog. Room was comfortable and dog friendly and all the staff were so friendly and attentive to Bronte our lab.

We found the grounds rather lovely to enjoy and explore with our Border Collie Mac. For us there were too many hotel no go areas. The room we had felt like something from the 1980s ! The furniture was firewood. The service in the restaurant was very slow with only the breakfast worth staying for. We won’t be back.
