“We picked the hotel due to dog friendliness and location. It scored 10/10 on both - we had great walks and connection to the coast; the whole environment was completely dog friendly, even dog centric. So why not five stars? While the food was great, on most nights there were too many plates that were not available. And the rooms were just a smidge too small (although entirely understandable in a character hotel like this, it would have been a problem if the weather had not been so great). We loved our break and the Castle Inn was brilliant.”

“The staff are extremely friendly and helpful but the rooms are very tired and in need of some TLC. We were put in a tiny room overlooking a flat roof with noise from the kitchen fans. We have 2 large dogs and so it was awful for us. After the first night they moved us to a bigger better room but it was still tired decor. They told us we were the last to check in and that's why we had the small room but we arrived at 11.30 am with the dogs and because we were too early to check in we told them we would take the dogs out for the day and check in on our return so they knew we had arrived and that we had two large dogs with us.”

“We were very disappointed with the accommodation. Our room was small, very hot and no offer of water bowl in bedroom or sausage at breakfast etc. The room had only one window which opened with a restraint overlooking the flat roof of kitchen. The extractor fan in the roof was going till last service. The room had a cooling fan which wasn't sufficient. My poor dog was panting heavily in the night as were we! The menu was expensive, overly fussy. The drinks were overpriced too. A bottle of merlot £36. Ridiculous. And it wasn't that nice. If you get a good room I'm sure it would have been better and been not so expensive. Shame as dogs were welcome and there were many there. The bar and eating area was hot too and the weather wasn't that hot either so sitting outside wasn't an option. Shame I was looking forward to my stay.”

“I suspect this pub has fallen on hard times and cannot get staff. The garden was overgrown and out of use and the staff did not seem to know what they were doing. We did not receive a warm welcome - we were directed to the wrong room and given no help with our luggage and dog bed etc up steep stairs. Our room was not big enough to swing a cat in let alone a dog. We asked if there was anything bigger but were told all the rooms allowing dogs were the same size. These are not cheap rooms and the price did not deliver the quality expected. The bed was too small and uncomfortable. There was nothing about this venue to indicate it was dog friendly apart fom them not actually being barred. No acknowledgement we actually had a dog and definately not a sausage at breakfast! Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant - you have to sit outside or in a cramped bar. We had booked dinner on our first night (food pretty poor - we had the beef which was described as cooked rare and it was grey with cold hard vegetables that had clearly been around all day). We ordered a bottle of wine and it was plonked on our table unopened. We had to ask for cutlery, butter etc. Despite booking in advance of our visit with our dog we were seated at a cramped corner table cheek by jowl with another couple with no room for the dog except almost on their laps. Eventually despite saying they couldnt initially they moved us. I would not recommed this establishment for any guests let alone those with a dog and suggest you consider removing them from your list. There was an issue checking in and out because we had booked through you and they kept trying to charge us again because they said you had not paid them.”

“We had a great three night break here. Room had everything we needed, all complimentary items refreshed daily and fresh milk available at all times. Breakfast menu was varied and delicious . Dinner was available if needed and again varied and delicious . The staff were so lovely and helpful, the countryside beautiful and our dog was very welcome too. Altogether couldn't fault this venue. ❤”

“Room comfortable. Service superb. Food delicious. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Pub charming and full of atmosphere. Set in a beautiful traditional Dorset village. The dog and her owners loved it.”

“Very dog friendly, lovely comfortable, clean, stylish rooms, and lovely staff who can't do enough for you. It's only a 15 minute walk to Lulworth Cove and all the walks that start there. And as for the food, unbelievable!!! We ended up cancelling our reservation in another pub so we coulld try more things off the menu on our 2nd night.”
