We booked this break, expecting a 4* week away with our 6 month old baby & spaniel. Sadly that's not what we received. Good points: Having a room with direct access to an enclosed lawn area. Lovely having access to swimming pool. Bad Points (unfortunately quite a few) A lot of grandeur & 4* from the outside, but the room we stayed in was very dated. Unclean room upon arrival, only managed to get it cleaned once in a weeks stay despite asking for it to be cleaned more regularly. Considering we were travelling with our 6 month old baby, an overflowing bin wasn't pleasant. When we did leave the rubbish outside our door (as requested) it sat there all day, despite cleaners walking past it. Meals very disappointing, including breakfast. Restaurant/eating areas not very clean Noisy hotel, weddings/functions seem to take place daily. Room service ordered twice and each time it was wrong. We settled the bill when checking out and when home realised they'd taken more money from our account for a random amount they couldn't explain. They agreed to credit it. Some of the staff were rude and unhelpful We really aren't the type of people to complain, but this really is one of the worst hotels we've stayed in. Perhaps staying here for a night or two would be fine, but any longer will just lead to disappointment.

We had such a lovely stay at the De Vere Tortworth Court. The staff were so friendly and helpful and made our dogs feel welcome. The dog friendly room we had opened onto an enclosed grassed courtyard shared by 3 other rooms which was an added bonus. The grounds are absolutely stunning with plenty of specimen trees for shaded walks. Dogs are not allowed in the main dining room but welcome in the nearby Atrium restaurant, or on the terrace so we just had to bring our breakfast through and eat in the Atrium. We managed a couple of swims in the Spa but this is currently booked on reduced numbers due to Covid. All in all we were very impressed with the whole package.

Stunning hotel with beautiful grounds set in an idyllic area. Would recommend nearby farm shop and National Trust Newark Park. Didn't receive a room with external doors which made toilet-breaks slightly more tricky, but we were moved to a ground floor room near an external door which was adequate. When I originally rang the hotel to confirm the booking I was told that the correct type of room hadn't been booked and we needed to pay a surcharge (it had, and this is included via pets pyjamas). The hotel agreed not to charge us again and changed the booking to right type of room. Doggo was welcome (on lead) throughout grounds and bar (which was beautiful and served same menu as restaurant). Breakfast was a bit awkward as was only served in the restaurant- we could either go one by one, take food back to our room or order room service continental breakfast. We did the latter and received plenty of tasty food. Table service somewhat slow throughout which was required when their website didn't work to order food and drinks (which was frequent). Spa area was clean and tranquil, swimming sessions needed to be booked in advance due to covid restrictions but this was easily done via email. Massage was fantastic. All in all a relaxing and wonderful holiday and best of all had our labradoodle with us!

Overall, the hotel is gorgeous with SOME lovely staff - others quite rude. Don’t expect much from the room if you are bringing a dog though. Felt like a Travelodge (rather rundown one) for the room we had with our dog - at the price of a 4/5 star hotel room. We ended up dropping our dog at a nearby kennels (Huntingford, can’t recommend her enough!!) so we could upgrade our room. Food lovely, some staff lovely, venue itself was breathtaking but would not suggest staying with a dog if you like something better than a very basic room. Very small dog bed and small bowls left for our dog in that room, although she is a Great Dane - so not suitable at all. No offer to get her water whilst sat outside for a drink. Common sense touches you’d think. Overall an ok stay, once we had the pilava of dropping her off. Reception staff were very helpful and could not be faulted though!
