Three visible staff who were trying to be all things to all people bar, reception, and waitress rolled into one. A suggestion for your website that you don't advertise dogs go free to entice people to book if they are going to be given a room in the car park! We didn't use our stay and left the same day. We were so disappointed using your company for the first time! And treating ourselves to a weekend away to get through mothers day having recently lost my mum. The Golden Fleece at Thirsk left something to be desired. We arrived around 1pm and were told that we couldn't check in until 3pm we didn't mind and said we would have some lunch only to be told that the chef had closed the kitchen because they were very busy and very unhelpfully we were told they were the only place that accepted dogs inside! We ate a sandwich in the market square until it started to rain and decided to go for a car ride. We arrived back at 4:30 to be given a room off the car park which was cold, small, miserable and dirty. The windows in both the bathroom and bedroom had been left open probably because they smelled like someone had been smoking in them. We close the window in the bedroom and looked to warm the room up, the radiator was broken as there was a fan heater and mobile oil radiator in the room! I believe that the decor was attempting to be shabby chic but it was just shabby! The bathroom and toilet were dirty. There was also an air-con/extractor outside our room which gave a constant hum. [I have a recording but the format is M4a which is not supported by your site] We have always said that our measure of standards of places we stay is never to accept less than we have at home and the same goes for our dog too. So we cancelled the meals we had booked and waited to see the receptionist who was doubling as a waitress and handed our keys back and said we were leaving. She did ask why? And stated she was sorry and would raise the issue with housekeeping!!   I would suggest you check out your hotels properly and charge for dogs instead of offering dogs go free that way customers get what they expect and what they see in the photographs on the website. Going home for a clean warm house, bed and bathroom for us and our dog was worth having to lose £280.00. We won't be recommending or using it again! We have booked direct with hotels that take dog/s and have never felt like we were 2nd class, however, we've always paid for our dog when booking ourselves, which we would happily do to ensure some standards and have always been made to feel as relevant as customers without a dog. Very very disappointing! Mrs & Mrs Lomas

Hi Glen, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding your stay at The Golden Fleece Hotel in Thirsk. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet the expected standards of quality and comfort you had hoped for We apologize for any inconvenience and understand your frustrations. We appreciate your suggestion about not advertising dogs go free in order to ensure that customers get the expected standards, however I can confirm we do not charge for dogs at the Golden Fleece. Please contact us if you have been charged directly and we can look into it. We hope that you can allow us to make things better for you in the future should you decide to come back. If you have any further feedback or suggestions on how we can improve please do not hesitate to let us know. We all had a relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly to us and Casper our dog. They made changes to the dining arrangements to ensure that Casper was disturbed by other less well behaved dogs.

We recently spent a 2 night break at this hotel on a Pets Pyjamas package. It was excellent value. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and Lupa loved her breakfast sausage! The rooms were small but very clean. It's unfortunate that the windows, which were very much in character with the age of the hotel, were marked from co sensation. However, this did not detract from our enjoyment. We would certainly recommend this hotel. X

We had a two-night stay at The Golden Fleece and enjoyed it very much. It is right in the heart of the market square in Thirsk and the bar was full of locals on Friday evening, which was lovely. We paid to upgrade in advance and our room was not quite as sumptuous as we thought it might be, or as large, but the bathroom was good, the bed was very comfortable, it was quiet and we slept well. Our dogs enjoyed their stay too, although they didn't get their promised doggie welcome packs! The staff were, without exception, very efficient, kind, helpful and charming, and the food was good, especially the breakfasts. The dogs got a sausage each on the second morning at breakfast, which made theiir day, and the staff gave them lots of attention. It's definitely a dog-friendly hotel. They had run out of quite a few things on the menu on the Thursday evening, but there are lots of other places to eat round the market square and plenty of places to walk your dogs. My advice is to ignore the advice on the hotel website and go straight to the car park behind the hotel, in Chapel Street, which has a different postcode. Park first and don't get stuck trying to find a space at the front of the hotel, which you have to pay for, only then to move round to the back to get your luggage out. When walking your dogs, head out of the car park behind the hotel, cross Chapel Street angled to your left and there is a footpath to a big open field less than a minute away - and a large children's playground at the end. You can do a nice circular walk out from there coming round to the castle mound and along the river then back to the market square or round to the end of Chapel Street. We really liked Thirsk and we liked The Golden Fleece Hotel too, and had a great package negotiated by PetsPyjamas. Thank you.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? ROOM TO SMALL YOU COULD NOT EVEN SWING A CAT OR DOG
Lovely place, friendly staff, only down fall was the room was the smallest on the floor not ideal for pets and not the one shown on your site, didn't get our free dog bowl, ball and treats so Isla missed out. The room you couldn't even swing a cat or dog!
