This place should never be called a hotel. This was for our anniversary and we stayed one hour then drove two hours home again. Filthy dirty, cobwebs everywhere, disgusting bed and bathroom. If there had been a fire god knows how we would have got out. Dirty coffee machine and no kettle. Bed full of springs with the thinnest quilt I've ever seen even though it was 4 degrees outside and not much warmer inside, towels you could see through they were that thin. The bar area was freezing cold and dark and dingy hardly a welcome site for our evening meal. The place is up for sale so that explains it all plus it has been taken off your website not surprising when you see the trip advisor reviews for January and if you knew this you should never be advertising it,the reviews were not there when I booked it. Very disappointing

This was my second visit to the Horseshoe Hotel and it was as good as the first one. The hotel staff were wonderful and made you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Dogs are welcome in every room and no issues with wet/muddy dogs in the bar area. Great base to explore the area and undertake the Esk Valley Walk. The food was wonderful and after a Yorkshire Breakfast no need for lunch. It was no issue to tweak items on the menu to accommodate a dog with limited dietary requirements, as the doggie breakfast sausage was off the menu for him. Thank you Craig, Sharon and all the staff at Horeshoe Hotel for making it a wonderful relaxing break in Yorkshire.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Would not return unless refurb is undertaken and cockerels removed!
The pub is very dark and dingy. The doors and paintwork need a good spring clean! The food and location good. The bedroom and en-suite, small but acceptable. This is not a hotel, it’s a pub with 6 rooms. The cockerels woke us up at 2.45 am and kept us awake all night (at that point we realized why ear plugs were left in the room!!). We had booked and paid for 2 nights but left after 1 night. :-(

The hotel is totally dog friendly. There's nowhere the dogs can't go. They are made to feel very welcome, even got a sausage each for breakfast! The hotel is cosy with a lovely roaring fire to keep you warm in the restaurant. Food was lovely. Had an evening meal and breakfast both very nice. The hotel is in need of a lock of paint and I didn't feel like our room particularly the bathroom had been cleaned properly. The bed was comfortable but sleep interrupted by a loud cockerell even though it was 2 am. That said it is in the heart of the countryside and well located for trips to the coast. I would visit again but in summer.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Surroundings beautiful and slept extremely well
I stayed here on 22/12/23 with 2 of my dogs. Staff very welcoming and accommodation pet friendly. The breakfast in the morning includes sausages for the dogs! There’s an array of breakfast choices plus a cooked breakfast. Delicious! Excellent value for money. Definitely stay here again and recommend with or without pets!

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Our four nights passed so quickly, it felt sadly that we were leaving too soon
The staff were lovely, very friendly and left us some beautiful Christmas presents in our room. The food was excellent, and the trust displayed towards the guests, whereby we could help ourselves to the drinks trolley, was truly refreshing. I think and hope that none of the guests who stayed over Christmas abused that trust. I loved the open fires and candles, and the ambiance of the Inn. The fresh milk for our rooms was really a bonus, and very much appreciated, a few biscuits would have been nice, but it's nothing important The only slight niggle was that the bedroom was a bit too small to accommodate our large dog, but we managed. I know that redecorating will be carried out soon, and I wish them the very best for 2024. Hopefully we'll be able to return one day soon

If you expect posh don't go. The horseshoe is rustic and quirky. But you and your dog will be given a warm welcome, literally, open fires in main rooms. Craig cooks good rich food, not pub grub and is accommodating. I asked for no chillies with the halibut. He altered the sauce. All the staff were friendly, shout out to Matt the barman who had to put up with us asking questions in the evening. And if you find ear plugs in your room use them ir the Cockerell will get you. Happy to return anytime we are in the area.
